Thought I’d give it a try. I see some trick possibilities i think.
Thought I’d try something (to me) new. Kind of like it.
Randomly come across this sub one day and saw some serious skill. I knew you’re beginner basic tricks with a responsive throw. I took the leap and got an unresponsive. I’m 4-5 days into throwing give or take. Got around 5-6 tricks under my belt. Just some clips of a couple I have so far.
I’m convinced most of these solely exist in that format to be clipped for social media.
Are there any pods where you feel a significant difference in the experience by watching instead of just listening while you fold laundry, walk the dog, mow your lawn, etc
Total shitpost. In honor of WTF coming to an end, which podcast host is the worst at interrupting interviewees? In the few episodes I listened to it was Bill Burr on his Anything Better podcast with Virzi though i expect there are worse.
Are there any that are particularly good at letting guests speak?
I’ve recently discovered what I consider to be one of the greatest hidden gem podcasts ever. The fall of civilizations podcast. If you haven’t listened, I highly recommend.
However, I’m run into the problem of having listened to every episode…
I see there hasn’t been a new episode posted in nearly a year. This leads me to why I’m here… Does anybody know if he’s retired from the podcast game, has he run out of civilizations to make episodes about, is he just researching for the next fantastic episode?
TIA
Like The Dollop or Small Town Murder. Looking for similar- doesn’t need to be comedy themed. Doesn’t necessarily need to be true crime. I really like this format of show.
UPDATE - Thank you SO MUCH for all the recommendations. I have subscribed to them all and will go through and check them out 😊😊😊
Any recommendations now that Mark Maron’s WTF is over? That balance the political/humor/kindness/curiosity?
Just learned that my father has a terminal cancer and will not be seeking treatment. I’m looking for podcasts on death and grief. Atul Gawande’s “Being Mortal” has been a source of peace. Thank you.
I’ll start! The best book I’ve ever read is The shadow of the wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I’d do anything to erase my memory and cherish it again.
Please share your favourite book :)
I have a 16 hour flight ahead of me soon, I usually get sick during flights so I need something very engaging to read. Thank you!
Edit: I would like to thank everyone for suggestions, I honestly didn’t expect there to be so much wonderful and helpful replies! I can’t digest all the comments at this time but I am certainly putting all on theme suggestions on a list! Again, I can’t thank you all enough for amazing contributions!
I am looking for a book or books that deal with being an ugly woman and how to focus on things outside of expected things like marriage, kids etc., as well as books that mention transmuting sexual energy into other forms.
I am NOT looking for books that deal with the topic of women empowerment, why we see beauty like we do, how there are no ugly women, feminism, and other topics that promote a view that there is no such thing as an ugly woman and similar.
Body:
I love stories about highly skilled people dealing with a bizarre situation in a professional, no-nonsense way. Examples: *The Martian* (astronaut survives), *Moonfall* (the novella by Ian McDonald about a tech fixing a lunar facility). Any genre, sci-fi, fantasy, thriller, is welcome!
I just finished a long streak of work and I feel totally drained. I’m looking for a book that can completely suck me in-the kind where you forget to check your phone, stay up way too late, and feel a bit lost when it’s over.
Doesn’t have to be one genre-I’m open to fantasy, mystery, or even something weirdly psychological. Just nothing too slow or heavy on politics.
What’s that one book that made you forget the world existed for a bit?
I have read and listened to 102 books from different genres till now, planning to add another 20 or so this year.
My mother for the first time showed some interest in the game i was playing (warframe). Long story short, she believes that games can stimulate her brain and lower the chances of her getting Alzheimers in the future.
I let her try it out, but after struggling with the movement and camera for a good while she got a headache and gave up.
I want to recommend her a game with easy controls, preferably with an arabic language and something that can make her feel like she’s stimulating her brain while slowly getting her into gaming (aka it has to be actually fun).
Nds games are also fair play, or any game that can be emulated on her phone. (I would rather not get her into crappy phone games)
I don’t want progressive levelling where slowly you unlock abilities but enemies stay just as hard throughout (God of war, diablo, ghost of tsushina). I want to quickly (only if I choose) get really good at combat, whether that’s with skill points or just learning, and be able to kick ass at the game. Does that exist?
TL;DR: Not games about decoding a language or just hearing foreign chatter, but ones that authentically portray not understanding what’s being said.
I’ve come across plenty of games where deciphering a fictional or foreign language is part of the gameplay. Things like Chants of Sennaar, Heaven’s Vault, Homicipher, Tunic, The Expression Amrilato, and 7 Days to End with You.
But what I’m looking for is something different: games where the language barrier is meant to stay a barrier. Think of the TV show Shōgun from the perspective of John Blackthorne. A foreigner, almost completely clueless to the language, only picking up a few words over time, relying instead on tone, expression, visual cues, and translators to make sense of things.
I’m not talking about:
Looking for games that feel very good and complete as games if you just play them normally, but contain dark secrets if you make strange choices or follow hidden routes. My number 1 top example would be Undertale and the weird route of Deltarune Chapter 2 (I assume the later chapters have something similar but haven’t yet played them). Another good example would be Act 1 of Inscryption. Also sort of Katana Zero even though that’s all scripted
I don’t think they’ll be anything like this, I was just curious if anything came close.
In Open World RPGs and the like, it’s a Trope where you bugger off and do sidequests while the main quest just stays put, just waiting for you to come back to get going, even if it’s big and world-ending important.
Is there any game where you go off doing sidequests, come back to the main quest, or a main mission and they just go “Oh, we already took care of that.”
(To reiterate, I don’t think there’s anything exactly like it, just maybe, vibes like it.)
I’m looking for games with well designed achievement lists ones that feel genuinely enjoyable to complete rather than a checklist of tedious collectibles or grindy tasks. I love when achievements encourage you to experience the best parts of a game or reward creativity and skill instead of busywork.
Create a Shortcut that does the following:
Street Address: Enter your home address
Get: Driving time from (enter work address) to [Street Address]
Text: Write a polite message and include the Arrival time. You can change this to how long it will take if you prefer that instead.
Send: Text to my partner
Create an Automation that triggers the above Shortcut when I leave work. I set it to a time range so if I run out during lunch it will not trigger it.
This is based on my much older shortcut Sticky Note, but is rewritten for easier use and updated to work with a widget.
After you create your first note, a popup with visual instructions will appear.

Hey folks!
Im back with another shortcut! Some of you might know me from my various AI powered shortcuts, like Node, which was popular in this subreddit a few months ago.
Anyways: i’m announcing Memento, another AI powered shortcuts (what a surprise…). I always thought that being able to talk straight into your phone and then actions were automatically taken, improved your productivity like crazy. Of course you can use any standard AI agent, but that can get overwhelming pretty fast. And you may be thinking: “Why not use Siri?”. My response to that: are you serious? (But really, Siri cannot even take multiple action at the same time.)
So I made Memento, it is purely focused on scheduling events, and creating notes and reminders. Minimal, but powerful.
It is completely free to use, and no external setup. (Like getting an API key). It works using Pollinations AI, powered by OpenAI models.
So, what does it do? Well, you can input in four different ways: typing, speaking, taking a …
At my work and school, I am required multiple times a day to log back into my accounts and it requires MFA everytime, even when turning on “keep me signed in”. The only available authentication options are using an authenticator mobile app or sending a code to my phone number.
I am someone that hates having to have my phone on me all the time at work/school, I don’t have a Mac and I wanted a Phone Link alternative.
So I just came up with a shortcut automation today that allows me to receive the verification codes sent to my phone number to my Gmail, which I can access from my google browser on my laptop. It is so simple yet I don’t know why I didn’t think of this earlier, it is exactly what I needed and maybe what other people need too.
HOWEVER
Keep in mind that this is much less secure, it defeats the whole purpose of the added MFA security as you now only need one device to sign in. So be cautious. There are much safer workarounds, I just wanted to …
I made an iPhone automation that automatically takes me back to the home screen whenever I open Instagram between Monday and Friday. Helps me stay focused during weekdays without having to delete the app.
What is missing in my automation? I have it set to automatically run when I connect to CarPlay. It’s supposed to pause whatever was playing, play the sound file, then I want it to resume playing my music. When I run the automation, it plays the sound file and that’s just it. Thanks in advance
