Hey everyone! You may have noticed I’ve been active a bit here over the last couple weeks. I plan to continue that and would like to be a contributing member of this sub. Figured a good way to continue that is to do an AMA as an introduction, as I’ve seen a few people surprised I’m posting here. Btw this a picture of me when I was 8 or 9 years old, 1 year into yoyoing on Christmas morning.
Anyways, ask away! ❤️
Hey everyone,
Haven’t thrown in roughly 20 years. When I was a kid I mostly stuck to 1A, but I always thought 2A looked like the coolest style out there. Got a random urge to pick up an old hobby again, grabbed a pair of 720s, and started working on my loops.
Here’s my progress after about a week — still pretty rough, but I’m starting to get the rhythm. Would love any tips, feedback, or advice on what I could be doing better (form, timing, string length, etc.).
Also curious — where’s the best place these days to learn more advanced 2A play? Are there still good tutorial channels or forums active?
Appreciate any pointers 🙏
Recently got back into yo-yoing (within the past 3 months) this is my current collection. Let me see yours! 🙂
Happy Halloween! Here’s a tut for one of my favorite repeaters
I am about 1.5 months back into throwing after being gone since 2013. Trying to keep up with the times is tough 😂
For me, it was Ologies. I love learning random science facts. I never really cared for the host all that much, but she was energetic enough, and the topics were interesting. She (and her general audience, tbh) really started to get on my nerves this past year. I just figured there were better podcasts out there, ones that were more serious and more specialized.
Edit: This has turned into my biggest post ever! Thank you everyone for the engagement and for swapping recs with me and each other!
Podcasts are a lot like tv shows - the longer they go on, the harder it is to maintain the energy and quality.
So, what pods have gotten better over time?
My answer is Last Podcast on the Left. The early episodes are kind of a capsule of what “edgy” comedy was like in the mid-2010s, but the show has matured into a well-researched and even thoughtful true crime pod. and he chemistry is off the charts and research is great!
What are y’all’s nominations?
We all have podcasts we like, but what’s one specific episode that absolutely blew you away? The kind where as soon as it ended, you went right back to the start to catch everything you missed.
What was the show and episode, and why did it have that effect on you?
I see these recommended so much and I really tried but I just can’t seem to get into them.
S-Town - It’s recommended so much and I really wanted to like it but I just couldn’t.
Strictly Stalking - The female host, her voice, there is just something about it. She is the only reason I won’t listen, I tried to push myself to ignore it but I can’t.
Small town murderer - They were’t as funny to me as everyone seems to rave about.
Heavyweight - The stories are not for me.
The Moth - I want to hear everyday people not famous people.
Cold - I listened to the whole Susan Powell case and I couldn’t wait for it to be over.
I just canceled Spotify (😭) because I can’t hang with the ICE ads. I was a long time user. I moved over to Qobuz because it’s got a pretty high payout for artists, but it doesn’t have podcasts. Any ideas for some podcast platforms I can pair with Qobuz?
On my way into a huge, tsunami-like storm in my life, with cracks appearing in every corner. Any good podcast that helps surviving or cope when life collapses?
Aware of my limited memory, I’d probably become one of Borges’s short stories. Not only do they have the advantage of being brief, but you get the sense that not a single word is missing or unnecessary , nothing is arbitrary, and nothing could be improved.
I’m talking a book that has stuck with you, that you’d recommend 100 times over, that you still think about no matter how long it’s been since you’ve read it?
The book that got the dopamine running.
While reading it you were like, “this is genius!” only to look back later and think, “wait.. was it though?”
books that’ve kept you up at night. books that scared the shit out of you. books that make you question life… anything.
Hey guys, can you suggest some books that are very old (I like that A LOT) that teach you something(like provide you with the mental food/stimulation) as well as entertainment. I don’t know how I should describe what I am looking for. Just suggest me some books fiction or not and I’ll read them! Thanks!
I want to get into nonfiction but hate the way most nonfiction books and biographies are told. Looking for a non-fiction recommendation that almost reads like a novel.
Bonus points if it’s about a cool topic like the mafia, film history, serial killers, etc
EDIT: thank you everyone for the recommendations! Going to have to work my way through the comments to see what sounds interesting and what’s been recommended the most!
Not sure if this exists but I’ve been imagining a dungeon crawling based game where you gear up and delve deep into dangerous places, but then have access to a nice cosy safe zone afterwards where you can recover and prepare again. Doesn’t necessarily have to be fantasty
Hey everyone, I was playing Silent Hill f for the first time today, and it got me thinking: what game has left you truly awestruck with its visuals?
I’m not just talking about high-resolution textures, but a game where the art direction, atmosphere, and technical graphics all came together to create something that really stuck with you.
So, what game amazed you the most with its graphics?
I’m not sure how to word this, but like something that’s both serious and goofy ?
best example I have would be the new DOOM games, the story is all serious about hell and demon and shit, but then you look around the corner and you get secrets that will give you toys, cheat codes, 1UP, etc.
the extra lives isn’t called something like “Doomhead” or “Second Chance” or something, but literally just 1UP–first time I see it made me laugh.
it doesn’t try to immerse me in the world by throwing a in-lore jargon, but straight up just use the usual gaming terms.
any other games like it ?
Do you have a “forever game” that you can personally recommend?
I’ve been trying to search for one (for years) but to no avail. There are certainly games that have provided me with an amazing experience but I just can’t seem to settle on my personal “forever game.”
Games that I love
Tactical & Brutal Gameplay
Deep & Rich Mechanics
I’m still getting used to the roguelite genre such as Risk of Rain 2, Ravenswatch, etc. Those games are meant to be played for thousands of hours given their possible item combination. What forever game can you recommend to me?
Back in the 90´s, Space combat sims were a big deal; Wing Commander, Star Wars Tie Fighter or X wing, Freespace, etc. There was this scifi game called Hardwar (1998) a flight combat simulator, with a very cool live action intro, that some people loved. Got mixed critics at the time. However, the game ended up lost in time until was relaunched in 2023 for modern systems on Steam. I would love to see this game in Unreal Engine or another modern engine. What about you, lads?
PvP Game are long because you play a different matchup each time but here I am not after pvp and so many PvE seem to be extremely short lived and those that keeps people playing for long are usually for the wrong reason like it is super grindy without any good reason or because people are not ready to let go so all they do is try funny stuff or just merely replaying the same thing or whatever reason it could be.
I’m new into shortcutting, and not into the very hardcore ones yet. What’s something the average iPhone user should use?
Hello everyone,
I wanted to share some news about new features available on the Shortcuty app. If you don’t know already, Shortcuty is an iOS app that allows you to browse and download shortcuts created by the community, and share your own aswell.
Some of the new features include:
“Check if silent” shortcut action. This action will return true if your device is in silent mode, or false if it’s not.
“Log Message” shortcut action. This action allows you to track what’s happening in your shortcuts, it includes multiple different “Log Levels”. Such as Critical, Info, Debug, etc. There is a dedicated section in the Shortcuty app that allows you to view these logs.
Completely redesigned our variable storage actions to be quicker and easier to use with other shortcut actions. Variable storage allows you to store files, strings, etc inside the Shortcuty app and can be retrieved later. It’s very similar to how a database would work.
Download stats tracking. This allows you to view your …

Hey,
I’ve built a series of Shortcuts to keep my digital document archive clean and organized.
Here’s how my setup works
Image 1 – Folder Structure
First, I created a detailed folder structure so I can properly sort every document I receive, both digital and scanned ones.
Everything goes into the main folder: 00 - Inbox.
Image 2 – Shortcut “A01”
This is the first shortcut in action.
Every file dropped into the 00 - Inbox folder is automatically sent to ChatGPT, which generates a title based on its content.
The file then gets renamed and moved to the next folder: 01 - Ablage -.
I’m not 100% happy with the results yet — the prompt might need some fine-tuning.
Also, I currently have to use two separate archive folders, …
Hi I am looking for suggestions on how I could improve this shortcut automation I have in place.
I use Apple Pay on my city’s public transport system and have run into the issue regularly where I can’t remember if I have tapped my card at a train station that doesn’t have gates. The payment history in my Apple wallet also doesn’t show public transport taps immediately or consistently, if I get it wrong I end up being charged a fine each time which is time consuming to have refunded.
I set up this automation and have the note pinned to a widget on my Home Screen when I am out. It works great except that it also triggers for any contactless payment I make using my default card. I can work out which is which but it’s not as clean as I’d like. I tried setting the category to ‘Transport’ in the automations tab but then tapping at the train station stopped triggering the automation.
Any suggestions?
I want my bedroom lamp to turn on automatically at 7 PM. Can someone help me understand what’s wrong with this setup?
