I 30f am looking for a pick me up. I tend to lean true crime, but life sucks right now and I could use something more positive and uplifting.
I started listening to “Stuff They Don’t Want You to Know” again and Ben’s voice makes me feel like I’m driving along in my 70s car listening to pirate radio of some conspiracy nut that I can only get locally. The way he speaks and the tone, it just makes me want to listen to the podcast. And his co host has just as good of a voice but Ben beats him a little.
It really takes a good voice to carry a podcast. I never listen to much with a lot of hosts or zoo radio style podcasts so I’m already biased. It’s so hard for me to listen to people just talking, even at work when I can listen to my phone, most hosts voice frequency won’t cut through the noise and it’s just becomes a blob sound in the warehouse.
I don’t know what this post is about. What’s some of your favorite hosts and shows?
I am looking for a new “favorite” podcast but one that’s more than just a favorite. I want it to be my new comfort, if that makes any sense.
I’ve heard people mention that they’re on their 2nd, or even 3rd run through of their favorite podcast and I want to find something that I’m just as in love with.
I enjoy most genres except politics and sports.
Cbc uncover just released a new podcast, dirtbag climber. It just came out, its just a couple hours but its really good. Same cbc quality as the other great ones they’ve released.
I dont want to give too much away. A body is found, but identifying him is more complicated than originally thought and the mans life was very much a Rollercoaster.
Enjoy
Is anyone else noticing this? Is it intentional to try to encourage listeners to pay to go ad-free. Is it a result of podcasts going on YouTube where ads are inserted differently?
“What if you opened a portal to the world next door?”
Anyone else horrified by this episode once you finished it? Any other healthcare professionals? I can’t explain how horrified I am that the TIAH platform allowed this episode to air with ZERO acknowledgement that this woman is experiencing extreme mental illness and delusions. She genuinely thinks, as a healthcare professional in training herself, that a spirit latched onto her. No indication that she’s aware of the reality that mental illness was beginning to take place on her brain in her 20s, as it so often does.
I listened to every single word and breath she took in this episode, and around where she talks about it maybe being sleep paralysis or mental illness, she never once at all says she then sought professional help or went for any type of screening or clinical help. Just that she worried about it, but then her new boyfriend had the same feeling, and so she was sure it wasn’t mental illness. She never once mentioned being …
I’ve got a long week coming up and I’m looking for my next great read. I’m open to any genre the only requirement is that it’s genuinely absorbing. The kind of book that makes you forget to check your phone.
What’s the last book that truly gripped you from start to finish?
I’m talking about a twist or finale so shocking, frustrating, or perfect that you had a physical reaction. No spoilers, just the book that gave you that visceral “WTF” or “OH MY GOD” feeling.
What’s the last book that genuinely made you gasp out loud?
Looking for a book to help steer my friend (30f) off of the alt-right pipeline. Since meeting her husband a few years ago, she has started to turn into someone I don’t recognize. She’s very smart and still receptive to hearing ideas counter to the ones she is starting to believe. We’ve had many conversations where i’ve introduced ideas like the wellness to alt-right/eugenics pipeline.
About her: she’s an aesthetician, currently pregnant, daughter of a first-generation greek immigrant (who did it the “right” way), and a first generation mexican immigrant. Her husband is a white, catholic, finance bro from the midwest. He’s really nice and really smart but shaped by his conservative upbringing (i think he might be open to learning as well, given the right book).
She has fallen into “mommy content” world, started to idolize Candace Owens, talking about “men in women’s spaces,” “the feminization of …
Suggest me standalone fiction books, it can be any genre - fantasy, scifi, historical fiction, post apocalyptic, horror, etc. but it has to be fiction (just maybe not too much smut). I’ll read EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM one by one as people keep commenting in that order.
P.S. - I have read The Martian, Project Hail Mary, Sword of Kaigen, The Hobbit, The Silent Patient, Shogun so try not to suggest those. Also don’t recommend anything Cosmere since I’m kinda done with Cosmere lol.
Edit 1- Pls try suggesting only one book since I have so many other suggestions.
Edit 2 - I might have overestimated myself I didn’t expect so many suggestions lol.
Final edit - I commented and TBR’ed the first 50 suggestions and I’m going to stop commenting on every single one from now on since it’s time consuming and there are so many but If I get to your comment, I’ll definitely read it next.
Thanks for all the suggestions!!
While organizing my books I became self-conscious about how stereotypical of a reader I am. My books are pretty much all written by men and on themes that one could call typical dude books. I read sci-fi, typical dude existentialist or philosophical literature like Huxley, Lem, Dostoyevskey and Camus. A lot of modern classics that have a pretty male audience, a bunch of actual philosophy, history and other nonfiction.
I wanted to expand my reading both in terms of genre/themes but mostly in terms of authors, specifically i want to read some female authors. As I’ve done some research online the authors I will start with is Ursula K Leguin and Clarice Lispector. These authors write very much in the genre and themes I typically enjoy.
I was wondering if anyone have advice for me for female authors to check out. In general I’m more inclined to read classics (probably mostly modern classics). Mostly fiction and that is interesting, engaging likely to stick with you in some way …
hat book completely consumed me for two days. I need something else that’s magical and beautifully written, but won’t give me a standard fantasy hangover. Any recommendations for books that feel like a warm, strange dream?
Okay firstly I am NOT asking for spicy games. So let’s get that outta the way first.
What I want is your “I know this game is old/crappy/looked down on BUT….” those games that for some reason or another sparked something special in you that you just can’t help but love and makes the game special for you.
!If you thought this was me asking for spicy games and are now sad then feel free to recommend them anyways, but at least explain why they are good games regardless of the spicy content.!<
I’m looking for games that really challenge your moral compass — where your decisions actually matter and the choices aren’t just black and white.
I love when a game makes you stop and think about what you’re doing — those tough, gray-area decisions that stick with you.
Have you played any games that made you sit there afterward thinking, “Did I do the right thing?” or that just lingered in your mind long after you finished?
As the title says - I am looking for games where there is a catastrophe, an apocalypse, literally anything causing the world to end and you can’t do anything to save it. It can be a game when you try but it’s futile, but it can also be one where your goal is not saving the world at all, but something else entirely. No matter what ending you get, the world ends. The recs can be any genre, I’m not picky! From quick research Season: a letter to the future seems like it fits the criteria, but I haven’t played it yet.
EDIT: I am also not looking for postapocalyptic games, as they feature what is happening after the so-called end. I am looking for the actual apocalypse, not the rebuilding or trying to survive after it happened.
EDIT2: I didn’t expect so many recommendations! Thanks everyone, I will be looking into these
I wanna play a game where i can sit and just go “wow” and stare at the graphics. I recently got a pretty beefy pc and played through tlou 1 and 2 for the first time. And it’s the most visually beautiful games I’ve ever played, the graphics are so so good and i found myself just staring at the screen for minutes upon minutes here and there. Especially at the farm section at the end of part 2.
Edit: Wow i didn’t expect to get so many responses, thank you so much everyone. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll try playing rdr2 again and see if i can make it past the snow section at the start.
I (30s F) am 100% new to gaming! I would love to get into a game so that my partner can play side by side in the evenings. He is into technical racing games, which I have tried but didn’t click with. Does a game exist that would help me “get” gaming as a pastime?
Considerations:
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! I’ve done some independent searching, but the whole medium feels so new that I’m having trouble parsing the results.
When I arrive at the gym, my iPhone automatically switches to a custom Fitness Focus Mode, which hides all my regular apps and only shows this set of shortcuts on my Home Screen. It helps me stay focused during workouts and keeps everything I need just one tap away.
Here’s what each shortcut does:
1RM – Lets me record my one-rep max for specific exercises (like bench press, deadlift, etc.) straight into the Notes app. It saves the date, weight (kg), and keeps everything neatly in order on the same note for easy tracking.
Write It Down! – A quick-entry shortcut to jot down any thought or idea without opening Notes. It timestamps each entry and saves it to the same running note.
1 Min / 2 Min – Simple rest timers for between sets. One minute for regular sets, two minutes for heavier lifts. No need to open the Clock app or fumble with the timer.
Shazam – Instantly identifies the current song, copies it, and opens it in Spotify instead of Apple Music.
Spotify – Opens Spotify …
media to 50% on insta and Reddit Because I sometimes open it in class so I have set automation to turn off my ringer volume to 0 if I’m opening insta or Reddit. So if I press the action button it will bring it back to 50. I really loved using the physical ringer on off toggle, so I have set it to work the same way if my phone is locked and in my pocket. If I press it, it will turn on silent mode. Drop your thoughts

Here’s a simple but surprisingly powerful iOS + NFC trick I use every day. When I tap my transit card, my iPhone automatically opens Transit.app and shows directions home — no typing, no swiping
👉 Download Transit first:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/transit-subway-bus-times/id498151501
Then open Transit and set your Home/Work locations under Settings — that’s what your shortcut will use.
To set up the automation:
While scrolling through my screenshots I came across some from back in 2019. It visualizes how much the UI of the shortcuts app has changed over the years.
