This shortcut lets you look up unknown phone numbers from your call log. Since iOS doesn’t offer a built-in way to do this, the shortcut captures a screenshot of your recent call log, extracts unknown phone numbers, and allows you to search them.
You MUST install the “Reverse Lookup” app for this shortcut to work. Currently, this app only supports phone numbers from countries using the +1 country code.
On your first launch, you may see a prompt stating that the shortcut is sending a screenshot to the app. However, it only sends the phone number being searched. To ensure a seamless experience in the future, you can select “Always Allow.”
Not sure if everyone knows this yet, but I had been searching for a way to create a show Shortcuts folder that displays shortcut icons instead of just a plain list of options.
The solution: Shortcut Widgets. Just add a square widget, then select “Show Folder” when editing it. You can also add a Shortcut to show folder to the Control Centre the same way.
Important: First, create a Shortcuts folder and add the shortcuts you want to display. Otherwise, the widget won’t show them properly.
Everything I had come across before relied on either a Focus Mode automation or the Action Button, but neither worked for me: • Focus Mode resets my active mode and restarts all its attached automations, which is a hassle. • Action Button automations are already set up exactly how I like them, and I don’t want to mess with that.
This widget trick solves the problem in a much cleaner way!
Hope this helps others looking for the same thing.
With so many websites now throwing up paywalls, I wanted to share this Shortcut that I made:
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/19bf1c39ba194239ac59bbc756b38596
What it does:
Takes URL from the share sheet (if you run the Shortcut from somewhere else, it will ask you to paste a URL)
Removes all tracking/query components from the URL (as these will confuse archive.is and make it not find the archived version)
Open a popover of the shared page on archive.is
Not super original or complicated, but hopefully useful for someone 🙂

I have a bad habit of crashing before setting my alarms. My wife was getting fed up of setting them. So I created this shortcut.
You’ll need to create an automation to trigger this shortcut every time you receive a text from whoever you want to allow to set alarms.
The text should follow the format: “Set alarm 8:00”
It will then set 4 alarms starting from 15 minutes before 8pm at 5 minute intervals.
So 8:00pm for example will set alarms for
7:45, 7:50, 7:55, 8:00.
Hope people find this useful!

What’s a must-listen podcast that you recommend to everyone?
There’s a new show called “The Know Rogan Experience” with Cecil Cicarelli and Michael Marshall, both of whom are part of the whole Scathing Atheist / God Awful Movies / Citation Needed universe of shows, and I’m sure some others I’m missing.
Now, I hate JRE so much I’ve never been able to listen to more than 10-15 minutes of one of his shows, but I criticize him all the time. That’s what the show is about - actually listening to Rogan & his guests to uncover what is going on. The podcasters listen so you don’t have to, but they do play portions on the show. “A show where two podcasters with no previous Rogan experience get to know Joe Rogan.”
It’s really good.
Hi everyone me and bf are going on a long trip (28hrs in the car totally) and we would love to listen to some good podcast, we really enjoy horror stories, random facts, mystery stories and theories, also alien stuff and anything that blows our minds hehe, thank you! 😊
What’s the best true crime podcast you’ve ever listened to, and what made it stand out?
Pushkin pods is the new home for the podcast, Jonathan just announced it on IG.
Y-effing-ay!
I’ve been reading and writing since I was a kid. Unfortunately, I have slowed down a lot on reading over the years. I could once read a big book in less than 3 days and several books in a month, but nowadays work, marriage and other distractions get in the way and it’s often hard to balance all hobbies and interests. I have never, however, stopped writing. I write every day.
I’m trying to get back into a reading habit beyond comic books, but I’m particularly interested in books that will inspire my writing. I’m often interested in writing that flows poetically but doesn’t come off purple prose-y or forced.
What are some of the most beautifully written books you’ve ever read?
You know the ones. The books that leave you staring at the ceiling, emotionally drained, questioning everything. Maybe it was a brutal plot twist, a character you got too attached to or just writing so raw it left a mark.
For me, it was A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara. That book didn’t just break me. It shattered me. The emotions were so heavy, so relentless.
What’s a book that did that to you? And why? Drop your picks. I need my next emotional breakdown read.
Books like: To Kill a Mockingbird, Slaughterhouse Five, Animal Farm, any variety of Steinbeck that gets assigned.
I was not the most studious in high school and missed out on a lot of classics simply because I didn’t want to read an “assigned” book.
So what did I miss? What is a must read in adulthood?
In Russia, high schoolers have to read Crime and Punishment, War and Peace, We by Zamyatin, Master and Margarita. It was a shock for me to learn that few people read these books in the US. At the same time I was in my 30’s when I discovered Steinbeck.
What are the classics from your home country that everyone should read and would enjoy as an adult?
P.S. this is a spinoff thread from the other one that was posted earlier.
I’m looking for a books that make you feel uneasy, overwhelmed, disgusted, uncomfortable but you can’t put them down. Any suggestions are appreciated.
What are the hardest games you have ever played? I am beating any game that is suggested and documenting my journey
Can by any game. Any genre. Any kind of thinking. I just want to be forced to think.
I know this may get some joke answers but whatever.
I currently have lost feeling to my left arm due to a pinched nerve. I can’t grip a controller well not use the thumb stick.
I like action games, things like souls and GTA. Sadly I can’t play those.
Currently playing a few visual novels and detective games as I can go at a pace that suits me.
Are there any stimulating games that I could play with my right hand. I have a PC and PS5.
Hopefully I can hold a controller soon and that my arm will be back to normal.
I quite don’t know how to describe it but I want a shooter game that is fast paced yet methodical
Something like between the fast pace of doom yet tactical and methodical like ready or not, checking corners, tactical accuracy, yet need to keep constantly moving
First person or third person doesn’t matter
I’m very late to the party but I got all of the Bioshock games bundled on an impulse buy because seemingly everyone LOVES this franchise and considers it to be a cornerstone of 2000s/2010s gaming. I think I might be stupid cause I just can’t figure out why it’s so beloved?
The atmosphere of Rapture is dope and that’s about the only thing that’s really clicked for me so far. As interesting as the story and environment are, the gameplay and controls genuinely make it a chore to play. Even by 2007 standards the gunplay doesn’t hold a candle to Half-Life 2, FEAR, or Resident Evil 4 (2005).
Are nostalgia goggles pulling a lot of weight for ya’ll or am I totally out of pocket? Is there a turning point in the game where it feels like less of a slog? Should I move on to Infinite or will I dislike that, too?
Signed,
A patient gamer that really wants to “get” Bioshock
