It’s been a couple years since I came across a podcast I loved so much I binged the back catalog. I miss having that to look forward to, wondering if there are still some out there that will capture my imagination.
I am open-minded re genre
EDIT: thank you all so much! This accomplished my overriding goal: to get excited about podcasts again. Part of the point of getting into them was to not mindlessly click around for content yet I was spending so much time doing exactly that.
I missed having that stack of potential pleasure to look forward to and thanks to you I have it again.

I’m looking for those rare podcast episodes that leave you feeling deeply unsettled long after you hit stop. Which episode had the effect on you?
For me, it has to be the Casefile multi part coverage on the EAR/ GSK
The host explains how the predator would break into victims’ homes weeks in advance just to unlock windows, hide shoelaces to tie them up with, and memorize the floor plans.
Yeah.. no thanks
Incredibly entertaining, even for movies one hasn’t seen.
I just finished and I’m obsessed ! I need more! I know this is a podcast subreddit but I also loved Baby Reindeer and am open to shows about women stalkers as well. I know that sounds weird but there’s something so psychologically engaging about it. Thanks!
Every pod these days always ends with:

I almost have the credits for the podcast Criminal memorized and it’s one of my favorite parts of every episode
I’m trying to find a replacement for Knowledge Fight and decided to give BtB a shot. I listened to their series on Vince McMahon and it just….wasn’t very good? They seemed to just gloss over every big event despite having unlimited time to talk about the subject. It felt more like reading a Wikipedia article than a deep dive.
The jokes from the host and guests were just awkward. I enjoy Last Podcast on the Left so I’m cool with joking. This just wasn’t done well.
It was also poorly edited. In the middle of a sentence, a commercial break happened. After the commercial break, they came back to the host saying it was now time for a commercial break. They did the commercial break music and back from commercials music back to back. Not something I expect from such an old podcast.
But I want to give it another shot. Hopefully some other guests will be more enjoyable. What episodes would yoi recommend?
I’m sick of believing that I need to perform attractiveness to be worthy of romantic attention. I’d love to believe that is not true. There are SO MANY STORIES - especially in movies - with a hot woman falling for an ugly man. I’d like to see a role reversal. No romantasy please - I want to believe that this is possible within the bounds of OUR universe.
EDIT: NO MAKEOVER STORIES PLEASE.
I want like, a slow creeping psychological horror that is pretending to be any other genre where it’s like a frog in boiling water and you don’t realize until too late that Oh No, This Is A Horror. I’ve read and enjoyed stuff like You Weren’t Meant to Be Human and Our Wives Under the Sea and really liked both. The more unhinged, the better! Open to dark romance/erotica, as well.
Preferably very little to no romance. Or at least, absolutely not a book that’s about a “ugly woman is actually beautiful and every man wants her” OR, “hot sexy man falls in love with ugly woman”. Would be great if not male centered at all but I know that’s idealistic lol
Would love something that centeres the experience of an ugly woman. About being ugly, about coming to terms with it and accepting it.
I am open to non-fiction but don’t want anything too preachy or self-helpy. I would prefer fiction :)
Edit: I can’t see comments for some reason!! I am getting notifications but when I click on the post I can’t see any. I’m sorry I can’t respond but thank you so much for the suggestions!!
I love non fiction, memoir,sci-fi. I am in my late 30s and decided to go for classic book. East of eden is my first classic and immediately fell in love. I completed it in three weeks.
After completing it I started reading rest of my books tbr and dude the modern contemporary writing is not doing anything for me. I realized to make things simple and easy to read, art of writing is lost.
I miss Steinback writing now.
Any other author recommendations with similar writing style???
Edit: I am blown away with the responses. I love this community. Thankyou everyone for these suggestions ❤️
I’m 25 and I’ve genuinely never read a proper book in my life 😭
(Unless Captain Underpants and Geronimo Stilton count from childhood lol)
Not proud of it, but I’m going away for 3 weeks soon to kind of disconnect and find some peace, and I really want to slowly get into the habit of reading.
The thing is, I don’t want anything too intense or “hardcore.” I’m looking for books that feel comforting, peaceful, easy to read, and don’t require too much brainpower. I love cute rom-com vibes, wholesome stories, cozy feels, etc. But honestly I’m open to any beginner-friendly suggestions that might make me enjoy reading for the first time.
Would love your recommendations 🫶
Looking for books where the protagonist slowly becomes emotionally or psychologically unsettling.
Not necessarily evil, just increasingly difficult to understand or trust.
I love:
I’m chasing that specific feeling where something feels wrong long before you understand why.
That’s what half of the posts on this sub amount to. And it mostly leads to the same couple of suggestions like Rimworld and factorio.
Use the search function to find the 1000’s of earlier posts if you’re looking for games like this
(And this might be my personal bias) but looking for games like this is often futile. You can’t force yourself to like a game for a 1000 hours, it either happens or it doesn’t. Anything done for that long will burn you out eventually
I think this is a harmful way to look at the hobby of gaming, you should not ‘want to get addicted/obsessed with anything’ to the degree where it keeps you occupied for a 1000 hours
Yes this post is petty and I understand if it gets removed for being off-topic, I’m just annoyed by my feed getting flooded daily by posts like this (not just from this subreddit)
Are there any games like I asked for in the title? I like Open World games a lot, Base Building and Deep Romance options and such, anything fit that kinda genre aswell as having nsfw?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently preparing my master’s thesis about how video games use discomfort and “anti-fun” design as an intentional tool, and am looking for recommendations for titles that are intentionally “uncomfortable” to play, in interesting ways. By “uncomfortable,” I mean games that deliberately create a sense of discomfort through mechanics, systems, narrative, audiovisual design, etc.
I am looking for games (or specific moments/segments in games) that intentionally induce any of the following: confusion, uncertainty, frustration, guilt, complicity, anxiety, and so on.
Some examples so you can understand what I’m talking about:
Spec Ops: The Line - Papers, Please - The Last of Us: Part II - Cruelty Squad - Fear & Hunger -Pathologic - This War of Mine - Darkest Dungeon - Dark Souls - Rain World - Lisa: The Painful
I’d be very grateful for any suggestions, especially if you can explain what kind of discomfort the game (or a specific …
Ive played multiple games now, monster hunter being the biggest, where they have talked about not killing too many of a creature as to not harm the ecosystem but then in gameplay you go out and kill thousands of them to make a pair of boots.
So im curious if there’s any game where you can affect the ecosystem by your actions. For example, you kill too many wolves, then prey creatures become over abundant and slowly start to eat all the vegetation, leaving the area barren or getting into a field destroying a harvest.
Also, I’m not really looking for an ecosystem management (if thats a thing) but more a game that takes the ecosystem into consideration.
Idk. In the games I have played, magic is mostly used for blowing stuff up. And while it’s fun, I’d love to see a magic system that wasn’t just chucking nature at people. Preferably of the RPG type.
Still haven’t found *the* space game where I can just relax in my spaceship, explore the galaxy.
There have been a few close contenders:
EVE online - probably the closest in terms of ambience. It was missing the ability to directly control you ship and lacked an internal cockpit to explore. Even just the ability to orbit a planet would have made this so much better.
No Man’s Sky - It’s more like piloting a water vessel as your ship will come to rest in space which is a huge bummer. Would be a contender in those rare ments you find a peaceful moon, until 50 ships suddenly warp in just cause. Feels way too crowded for the vastness of space. Points for the sheer exploration of travel options. Again no orbit. Does have a cockpit, but its either/or. Either a one man seater or a freighter.
Q: What do you want to do?
A: Vibe.
I feel like so many games spend too many resources on combat and I specifically am looking for non-combat.
Give me Euro Truck Simulator in …
Hi everyone,
I want to share a very useful feature I just added to my app. It helps you take quick notes directly on your Lock Screen without unlocking your phone.
You just tap the shortcut button (or add double-tap), type what you want to remember. It updates right away!
The app is called LockScreen Calendar Maker.
Important note: My app does have some premium (paid) templates, BUT I decided to make this Sticky Note template 100% FREE. You don’t have to pay or subscribe to use this quick note feature.
During the app installation process, you will also go through some steps to set up shortcuts to change the lock screen image.
I hope you find it helpful for your daily life.
You can download app here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/id6758650351
Link shortcut: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/1457c1c4ac154d50adc0914afe07917d
Let me know what you think! I would love to hear your feedback.
“The iPhone maker is additionally preparing an upgraded version of Shortcuts, its app for creating time-savers, such as for sharing calendar availability or summarizing a PDF, or automations like opening the garage door and turning on lights when arriving home.”
“The version now in testing lets users create shortcuts simply by describing what they want them to do. Currently, users need to manually build shortcuts within the app or download them from Apple’s gallery.”
“In the updated app, users are presented with a prompt asking, “What do you want your shortcut to do?” along with a text field to describe the request. The system then automatically builds and installs the shortcut on the device.”
Easily open any Apple Maps location in Google Maps. To use it, just share the location from Apple Maps to the shortcut, and the Google Maps app will automatically open (if installed).
