After 2 decades of horrific Alarms like radar, quack, barking and seaside to wake up to Apple have given us the most calm and energising sounds to wake up to in their Focus -> sleep -> schedule feature.
Is there any way to trigger a shortcut when it goes off that will increase the sound gradually over the course of 10 mins. I would prefer this shortcut to be triggered by the alarm itself and not by a separate time schedule. Two time schedules for my waking usually ends in failure to set properly as I found out from trying to sync my hue lights fading in with my alarm. Thanks
I figured this would be an interesting way to find new podcasts. I was listening to The Story Must Be Told recently. I really love it and always listen same day as the new episodes drop. As much as I love it, i know it’s far too bizarre and extreme for any of my friends to enjoy, yet it’s truly great and should be shared. It is a fictional, culty church that shares stories (like bible stories) with the congregation. It’s all very well written and produced and only made better by the absolutely bizarre content. Each episode is mostly independent of the others with a few things that can carry over. It’s kinda like if Adult Swim did bizarre horror or thrillers and they were obsessed with 90s era American made sedans. If you like very strange stories and need a new pod, check it out! It’s kinda like Welcome to Nightvale done by depraved sketch comedy nerds.
What are any recommendations you guys have?
I’m not asking what is your favorite podcast but what episode is the best you have ever heard.
I am looking for podcasts for women who run businesses. But the boss babe culture of MLM‘s ruins my search criteria. Any non MLM podcasts for women?
I want to find a few podcasts I truly enjoy and could binge on! I have SO MANY options I’ve gathered from this subreddit and other posts, but I’m having a really hard time picking specific episodes to listen to. Everything seems interesting! I’ve liked Philosophize This, This Podcast Will Kill You and Stuff You Should Know so far.
If you could drop your Top 3 (or 5 or 10) episodes of all time, I’d love to check those out!
I really like history and learning things, dating and relationships, mental health, movies and tv, celebrities. Not a fan of true crime or murder but if you think a certain episode is a must listen, don’t hesitate to recommend it.
Thanks in advance!
People used to joke that “everyone has a podcast” but it feels like that became more true during the COVID-19 pandemic. It seems like every celebrity has a podcast these days - Rob Lowe has a podcast, Jason Bateman has a podcast, etc. So many of them started while these people were stuck at home.
I enjoy some of them, but I think it’s also a bit sad to see production companies - because none of these people are recording and editing their own stuff - leveraging the existing profile of celebrities to take up so much of the air, the attention, etc.
Do others lament the lack of new voices? Or does the access these people can get to other celebrities outweigh the costs?
I’ve been a big fan of several Gimlet podcasts, but they’re moving to distributing exclusively via Spotify. I get it, Spotify bought them and they want to find a way to monetize them. However, I like the podcast player I have. I tried the Spotify one but it’s missing features I like. So, I’m now looking for podcasts similar to:
Any suggestions?
I’d prefer it to be nothing particularly inappropriate, just a book that’s painful to read through due to bad storytelling. Could even be intentionally written poorly if it still fits the criteria, I guess.
Edit: I’ve made a choice; “A Pickle for the Knowing Ones” by Lord Timothy Dexter. Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions! You guys were super helpful :D
For example, the topic is “circus” 1. Under the Big Top by Bruce Feiler - non-fiction 2. The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern - fiction
Edit: A big thank you to everyone contributing! I was hoping for at least 12 suggestions so I could do a topic a month but wow! So many great choices I hope it only grows! Come find me in r/books starting January and I’ll update you on the experience and how the books compliment or distort each other. Read on my friends!
I’m in the mood for a good fantasy book (could be with a romance too!) so drop your favorite ones that were worth your time ;)
Hey everyone and sorry for the clickbaity title, I couldn’t really think of a different one.
Anyway, my gf and I recently started redecorating our living room and finally bought multiple bookshelves to display our favourite books. We mostly have the same taste in books, but she also had a few books at the very back of our old storage that I’ve never heard of before, like Warren Fahy’s Fragment and, her favourite, Dave Freedman’s Natural Selection.
Not knowing anything about the books, I jokingly compared them to trashy horror movies like The Meg which she didn’t take too well and explained that she liked books with a “What if this prehistoric creature survived?” kind of setting. (Yes, one of her favourite movies is Jurassic Park.)
Now I’m looking for any books with a similar setting to those, preferably well written, to read myself and get into that genre. Also, to gift them to her.
TL;DR: GF likes books with prehistoric creatures …
My taste skews adult and transgressive so I’ve ran of recommendations for a 12 year old girl. Also, she’s French and English is her second language, so while her language is improving, she’s not quite at native level.
I’ve noticed a pattern in this community, where disagreeing with the accuracy of a given suggestion, especially if you’re the OP, is a surefire way to get downvoted at least once. Why is it so?
And just to make sure we’re on the same page here - I’m not talking about overly picky OPs, who don’t know what they want and are rude to people. I’m talking about simply making a statement, that a given recommendation doesn’t meet the criteria, even if said recommendation is something completely out of place in a request, or is otherwise unhelpful, e.g. giving the OP recommendations for games on platforms they don’t own and/or don’t want to go through the effort of emulating, or giving a recommendation that’s missing a key element that prompted the request in the first place, with both of those examples being things clearly specified inside the request post.
I see it happening around here all the time, both to me, and to others, and …
Looking for a game like the title says, FPS, Hack & Slash, roguelike, looter shooter etc doesnt matter
Only criteria is that the game is modern (post 2015 ish if possible)
Really looking to scratch the itch of just mowing down hundreds of enemies
Any suggestions?
Edit: fast-paced is a huge plus
Edit 2: The only thing that comes to mind when thinking of what im looking for is the airport mission in MW2 where you mow down a bunch of civilians
I’ve looked at this game quite a bit and it looks fun, but I’m curious if it ends up being a stressful survival style game or if it’s relatively relaxing. Stressful moments are fine, but in general is it pretty chill?
TIA
EDIT* - Thanks everyone for your info! I think I will pick it up but not as a game to chill with. I don’t have thalassophobia and I like exploring games. I just won’t use it to relax lol
I purchased Back4Blood which (IMO) was absolute garbage, or at least it was on PC. I couldn’t get it to even play half the time and it was intensely underwhelming gameplay wise when I did get it to work.
My favorite genre is survival and/or mmorpg type games but I’m open to anything really good. Games I love are..
Rust, GTA5, Scum, State Of Decay 2, Titanfall, Destiny, Skyrim, Fallout, etc. Used to play WoW consistently, also tried FFXIV and Guild Wars. I’ve also played and enjoyed Apex Legends, but I was terrible at it.
I just can’t figure out what to buy. I was looking at Myth of Empires, New World, Battlefield 2042, Mortal Online 2, Medieval Dynasty.. however I just can’t seem the pull the trigger on any of them and make a purchase.
I really enjoy open world, survival, zombies, crafting and grinding type games. I don’t hate shooters, I’m just not competitive gaming wise.. so if that’s a suggestion please make it anyway. When I …
I spend a long time on the subway commuting. So I’m looking for a phone game with turn-based RPG mechanics that does not require an ongoing internet connection and is not designed around microtransactions. Basically a console-style game for Android.
As an added wrinkle: I know there are a lot of ports that satisfy this requirement, but for obvious reasons they’re of very old games and I’ve played them already.
Does anything like this exist, or should I just try to dig up a used 2DS?
Edit for Clarity: By single-purchase, I mean a game that doesn’t even let you spend more money on it after the initial purchase. If I pay the $20 or whatever for XCOM or War of the Lions, that’s it: I can’t spend more on it even if I want to.
I find that games which allow in-app purchases are always obnoxious about them and/or deliberately nerf the core experience to incentivize paying extra.
